I live in florida and I have about a 10 foot alligator in my pond with 2 babies and i was getting woried cause i was woried for my children and anybody who would get near the pond she was getting very aggesive very!! so i called in a professional wildlife team to remove her and relocate her. i said relocate but when they got there i was at work an like they killed her on the spott and dragged her out of my pond and i am not sure what they did with her then. my neighbor said she saw it and she was killed and i specifically asked for her to be relocated and i don't know what to do now. i was looking for an explanation and i keep calling the organization but they don't answer so i want to know if there was a reason she was killed.
thanx

As I understand FL regs, when an alligator is over 4' the trapper who takes the call has the right (maybe obligation, I'm not sure) to dispose of the animal. In addition to the adult animals having a tendency to return if they are relocated, they provide the income to the trapper for doing this work as I don't believe the state pays them at all. So the trapper kills the animal and process the hide and meat from it as payment for their services. In addition, if it was a 10 foot alligator (that would be a VERY large female) it would be much less hazardous and labor intensive to kill the animal first rather than restrain and load up a live animal of that size.

Hope this answers your question.

Bill
