Breeding Siblings

twilightfade212 Sep 14, 2006 10:01 AM

I picked up two kings from the same dad but unknown if they have the same mom or not. From what I understand, when I bred these guys, I shouldn't have any problems. It's just if you continue inbreeding over generations that problems will come up. If anybody could let me know that'd be great. Thanks.

It can be a problem with a single generation.

Generation and generation of inbreeding reduces the available genes, worsening the problem - but even the first inbreed still results in many genes being held in common, increasing the odds of a genetic disease.

Half siblings are the most I personally am willing to do. Unless it is a brand new morph, relatively unrelated mates that express what you are breeding for are in most cases available, at least with many kingsnakes.
