Opinion about sinaloans.

azhael Sep 14, 2006 11:47 AM

This may be a bit dumb but i was curious what you all think about sinaloans, and your experience with them.
I own a female sinaloan and this is what happens.
When i got her two years ago she was 4 months old. My house partner got a male of the same age.
The male hardly ever skipped a meal...it had a better feeding response than my female. She ate well at first but soon started to be a bit picky. Now she eats extremely well (i´m very happy) but in this two years she has gone throw fasts several times. The longest one was a month a hald long. The male never went through fasts.

The fact is....i always heard sinaloans were very eassy snakes to care off...with a great attitude and a good feeding response....what do you think??? Are sinaloans that eassy? it´s just mine that is the expection to the rule???

btw they both grew at the same rate even if mine ate a lot less...so i never really worried about her. Just would like to hear about your experience.

Well, OK.. this time. But next time, its curtains, baby.

It is often the adult males that go on fasts, usually associated with breeding season and also during the Summer in many cases (at least where I live they did.) Are you sure of the sex?

In any case, there is no rule that says any snake needs to feed each week. That is "caresheet talk" and is not meant to be taken as absolute fact for each and every individual snake. The real facts are, sometimes they will eat gangloads of food, and sometimes they may not want food. Your cage conditions certainly have an affect, but so does the snake's own bio-rythyms.

My approach after many years of trying caresheet formulas is this: when they are hungry, I feed them until they seem satisfied. When they are not hungry, I don't. If I offer food and they don't eat, then they don't eat. Usually, colubrids like Sinaloans have a body language that tells you when they are eager to feed.

So don't worry too much about it.
