With some species that works - all you need is an adult male and an adult female in the same cage and they will breed.
However, most species require you to stimulate breeding by cooling them down to an appropriate temperature for a few weeks or months, or increasing the humidity for a short time, or adjusting the photoperiod, or a combination of all these things. For some species, we still don't know how to stimulate successful reproduction.
You have to know the stimuli for the species you are working with. There are dozens of books, magazine articles and even websites that describe this for various species.
Then of course, some species will lay eggs, others will bear live young. You have to know how to treat the females of particular species and eggs to successfully produce offspring.
So,...no, it doesn't just happen.

You can only breed snakes of the same species together. There are a few people that hybridize closely related species, but it isn't easy to do and the offspring are hard to get rid off (Most people don't want a yellow rat x cornsnake cross, for example). They want a cornsnake or they want a yellow ratsnake, not a mutt.
