Pregnant Leopard Gecko?

phishie Sep 14, 2006 08:10 PM

Hey ya'll. I just had a quick question about female leopard geckos. I have a male and a female (and I have had them in the same tank - 20 gallon- for about 2 or 3 months now). She appears to be a little bit bigger in the belly than normal (to me). Could she be pregnant? How will I know? Thanks in advance.

It is possible but, I thought leos normally bred at the end of a cooling off period. Mine always laid eggs in late febuary or early march. One way you can tell is by candling her. Hold her up to a bright focused light and look into her abdomen area. if you can see to large oval shaped masses on either side...you could have a momma on the way! Another thing to consider is her getting fat by over eating or being aggressive and eating any and all foods and letting the male get none. There are to many variables to single in on at the moment. Try candling and see if that works.

I'm afraid I will hurt her if I pick her up other than letting her crawl on my hand. How should I go about this? Both geckos eat the same amount of food on average. Sometimes she just isn't hungry yet (when we feed her - about 11 p.m.). Thanks for your help so far.

Try putting her into a clear bottomed container to candle her(extra cricket keeper/tupperwear container)so you don't have to worry about holding in an awkard position or hurting her

That's a brilliant idea. Thanks, I'll try it.
