what substrate should i change to?

bscarl88 Sep 15, 2006 09:02 AM

ive used sand for my leopard gecko, and now i am going to add an armadillo lizard, and maybe another gecko, but what substrate should i use instead of sand? sand is easiest to clean out i think, and it looks the neatest, but what other substrates are ok?

paper towels, non adhesive self liner, tiles

Hopefully not all in the same enclosure!

Paper towels for sure: cheap, easiest to clean, hold moisture if you want them too (throw them out when they mold), not easily ingested, and if you buy the expensive cloth like ones without printing or quilting they really don't distract from the overall beauty of the enclosure.

I just finished the quarantine period for my geckos and have switched from paper towels to ceramic tile. It looks very neat and has, thus far, seemed to be accepted by my geckos.

I have a breeder/friend who uses ceramic tile as well, so I know that it isn't "bad" for them at all.
