Def. don't use sand. Try coco fiber or an organic soil or peat substrate. If you want something simple, many ppl use papertowels. They are easy to clean and there's no risk of impaction.
Sand does not occur naturally (at least not as a substrate & in large amounts), so it's not a good choice. Also, the risk of impaction for the crestie's is great. I personally would not risk it. Are you trying to use the same substrate for both geckos to save on the number of supplies? If so, I would recommend the paper towels, or perhaps some reptile carpet, but toes might get snagged.

actually sand is very common in their natural habitat, as crested geckos in nature often live just a few meters away from the sea.

Yeah Don't use sand. You have to research all animals you get before you get them but.. See Crested geckos are from the rainforest not from a desert liek the leopard geckos. Just because you use one kind of substrae for one animal doesn't mean it's good for another.
The easiest substrate would be paper towels. If it's a baby i'd def use it for a little while at leats becau sei've heard alot of problems with useing things like that bed a beast.. But if it's big stuff that and peat moss mixed with green moss on top is good.
