My 1 bloodred is turning white?

HerpZillA Sep 15, 2006 01:09 PM

Here's a few pics of my male BR I picked up this year, and my female I picked up late last year. The female was always odd to me. I just kept calling it a wannabe BR. Now, after her last shed I see more white around the saddles/patch areas?

She did not have white when I bought her. She is a total spaz and near impossible to get pictures of, but I tried to get fairly decent pictures.

Males head

Females head

Both - male left, female right. You can start to see the white.

Female close up

The females belly is deep red. No black. It seems each shed she changes color. Like on her head shot. I do not recall that golden color on the side. I just presume most of the changes as part of the bloodreds morph. But white?

That belly is typical of animals that are from Bloodred lines. However, the checkers indicate she is not homo for the "diffuse" gene that is a major part of the equation that makes a Bloodred. It is common for animals from Bloodred lines or animals that are het for "diffuse" to have only red checkers and no black. She may also be homo for Hypo as well.

How certain are you that she is female? Her tail seems a bit thick, although there isn't enough of it showing to make a judgement. I was just curious.

I probed her after I bought her. I actually wanted a male.

Thanks for the info. My male is a bit more classic bloodred. I could not pass her up though for $40.

What about the white on her body? That seems so odd to me. Especially since she did not show any when I got her.

"Back in the day" there used to be "calico" corns, which looked normal upon hatching, but then developed white splotches. I'd keep a photo documentary of that snake to see how much white it gains over time.

I just got home, my new spanking zipper cream is in his new home. But I was at the Cleveland Show and spoke to the guy I got it from. You know who. I said, "Hay recall that loosy bloodred you sold me?" He laughed and said yea. I said, it's forming white ring around the black rings. He said "OH, it was a calico then" I did not even offer the idea. It did not hit me to ask where he got it.

I lost my laptop to my daughter and I moved all stuff to 2 other computers. I know the pics i took were not great as I was not trying to document anything. But I am going to browse all 3 computers on my network with picasso to see if I can find all the pics I took of her.

OH, I'll be in tomorrow, so unlet I forgget so will your stuff. I'm over 40 it happens. Like forgetting to post a picture with a post!

Tim, saw my wannabe bloodred /hoping to be calico and said it is a normal. I have to say Tim knows his stuff. I find it an odd normal, and may or may not breed it to my male. She's hypo, it all depends what might turn up before brumation time.

for this subthread, I thought the poor snake had died. Cheer up, man. Get yourself a baby bloodred and start working on raising it. That way you will be sure of its bloodlines. Imagine if you hadn't gotten the word on this one and had gone to all the trouble to breed it to find out THEN that it isn't a true bloodred.

your right, to a point. I did get a baby bloodred. Suppose to be a female. I cherry picked a guys clutch when I also got the male bloodred. Somewhere in here it something about being patient. It's just not my nature lol. thats one reason breeding rodents is fun. Much faster results.
