turtle eggs

sharonkfell Sep 15, 2006 06:59 PM

I have 3 turtle eggs that I am uncubating in the house. They were laid 75 days ago. How do I tell if they are good? They are a dark browninsh color and I'm afraid they aren't good but I don't know if I should pick them up and look at them or not.

If the eggs themselves are brownish (ie: not whitish eggs covered with brown dirt), then they probably aren't viable.

I can't tell if it's the eggs that are brownish or if it's dirt on the shell. It's making me crazy not being able to tell. Like I said, it's been 75 days, how much longer should I wait?

Moisten a paper towel and gently wipe the surface to see if dirt comes off.
Do you know what the incubation temperatures have been? A lower temperature would translate into a longer incubation period.

after 75 days if they are infertile they will have sunken in and become quite hard, if fertile the shell will be white and soft.
