Whiteside Brooks question

Upscale Sep 15, 2006 07:26 PM

I can't get over how fast the Whiteside Brooks has become so readily available and the price drop. It seems this was a new trait in Brooks, like, not so long ago. It sure seems like this trait popped up in all kinds of snakes lately. What is the story on the origin of this trait in Brooks? It hasn't been long enough for this to be a mystery, I wouldn't think.

The WS trait has been around for a while now. They have been around for 5-6 years. Tim Ricks originated them. The price 5 years ago was $500. and they held their price due to male not being sold unless someone bought a female to go with it.

Professional breeders popularized them. Now the price is finally starting to drop.

Do you know if these popped out of axanthic breeding? Or the origin of the trait? I'm trying to get the relationship of this trait to other known or is it totally unrelated? I know Tim had axanthics pretty much before anybody didn't he?

Supposedly it popped out of the Lemke axanthics. The father was a axanthic and the female was a het normal.

What is strange is that no other WS popped out of any of the other Lemke axanthics that are out there. Tim was the only one to produce them. No one else I know of had these pop out if their Lemke axanthics.

Today the market has been flooded with breeders producing these all over. Thats why the sudden price drop.

Well whatever it is, I like it! As has been briefly mentioned in previous posts over the years,
there was alot of new stuff that can be traced back to those Louisianna breeders.
Seems strange that Tim's buddy Chris would say they (WS) were man made, but it probably doesn't
matter. I guess if we start seeing Brindle WS Brooks we can all raise an eyebrow then, right?
When I produce those red racing stripe WS patternless Blaze Goini, you can bet I'm going to
admit it wasn't just luck!
