Questions I have???

Hoopy Aug 05, 2003 12:49 PM

Hello,

I am in the process of getting a small group of gilas. I have a few questions.
1) How do you guys get your gilas that 55-60 degree temp for hibernation? I cannot think of any easy way to do it, but I am sure you guys have a solution.
2) Can I keep gilas in a rack system? I have polyracks from the boaphile that I keep adult ball pythons in, would that work?
3) How easy can Gilas get sick?
4) If I get a group of 1 year olds, how long will it take for them to get to breeding age?
5) What other info would be helpful to a guy starting a Gila breeding group?

Hopefully you guys can answer some or all my questions. I am really excited about this new project and would like some baseline info to get going with.

Hi Hoopy?
You do not need to cool your Gilas that cool mid 60's will be fine. They wiil reach sexual maturity around the third year depending on how much you feed them.I would not grow them up too fast you can have problems with obesity.I keep my gilas in rack systems for up to two years because of space mostly.
Gilas are real tough animals they don't usually get sick unless they are introduced to a virus or something.
Good Luck,Chris
