I need info on crocodile Geckos

daweydd Sep 16, 2006 01:38 AM

I have a few questions.
1.What kind of subtrate should be used?
2.What is the tempurature and humidity range?
3.Do they need Uvb lighting?
4.Can they walk on Glass walls?
5.What are their tank requirement? (length or hight wise)

I have a crocodile gecko, I keep it at room temperature. He's eating and acting fine for almost a year now. If it gets really cold where you live just have a basking spot at about 85-90 degree should do the trick. Oh, and I use paper towel as substrate. It works fine for me.

OK, thanks,
so what about;
tank reqierments,
do they need UVB lighting?
and can they walk on glass walls?

Hi, I have 2.1 {2 males & 1 female) of these guys. I keep one 1.1 pair in a ten gallon, with one tubluar lightbulb above. I use no UBV and I've had them without UVB for 6 years now. They climb glass quite often, and mine are often on it and on rocks and logs.

You can one or two in a 10 gallon easily, and you don't need UVB light. I keep mine for over a year without UVB light and she's doing fine. I hope that answer your question. Good luck!

yes, most of them.
so what kind of subtrate should I use?
I would be able to keep 2-3 in a 20 tall right? only asking because thats what I have thats not being used.
and how hot should the tank be in there?

Paradon Sep 24, 2006 03:06 PM

ACtually, I keep mine at room temperature, and he's fine. But if you must have a heat lamp, I guess a basking spot of about 85-90 is ideal. I use papertowel as subtrate.

daweydd Sep 25, 2006 06:22 PM

what other subtrates can you use?

Paradon Sep 25, 2006 10:48 PM

I wouldn't use anyother substrate because I'm afraid that my gecko might accidentally ingest some particulate used as substrate. I think papertowel is the best IMO, but you can use something like cypress mulch; it seems to come in large pieces so your gecko can't swallow it. I'd stay away from bed-a-beast and sand because he can swallow them and cost impaction. Another safe one you can use is newspapers; they're cheap and easily available.

I've had mine on sand/bark multch for a few years without problems. I actually found 2 hatched and 4 unhatched eggs last night! :D

That's great! Congrats!

I have a basking spot for my croc and he loves it. He has logs, artificial rocks, and vines and he climbs everywhere on everthing! I love the little guy, he is great. I use Eco Earth for substrate and it works just fine.
