i want to build a tortoise fence any help?

Solid Material, chain link drives tortises insane. Perhaps ciderblock as its sturdy and easy to build with. Remember you need to go down a bit to prevent burrowing out. Perhaps a layer of hardware cloth a few feet down around the perimeter as an added layer of protection.

i am in central Fl. w/ sandy soil,ihave an acre of land, chain link fence and the tort just cruises the fence line till the dog buried out an so did Otis a 18" sulcata. found him close by yesterday an is confined during the night and was allow to cruise during the day ,but in two hours this mornin he dug under in the same spot and was making a break for it.

That is actually a common problem with chain link or any other welded wire contaniment method the tortise can see through it. As natural explorers and grazers the tortise will continue to escape until there is a visual barrier, like a block wall. The tortise will eventually go insane with no visual barrier.

I would consider building a pen like 20' x 20' with a 2' high brick wall about 18" deep. at the base of the wall (under the dirt of the pen) place a single row of hardware cloth to the inside of the pen. So that accidental burrows near the edge do not end up out of the pen.
