Going Bananas?

colorfulcritters Sep 16, 2006 03:39 PM

I'd joined another website and 'a wise sage' of a turtle guru had said that bananas are bad for turtles. I'd heard the opposite, that bananas "had potassium" and therefore were very nutritious, healthy, and essential for sliders.

Correct understanding anyone?

My turtles go bananas over bananas.

Wish I hadda answer for ya, but I don't. And to agree with ya, my YBS loves bananas too....so now I'm curious as to what the answer really is. As a matter of fact, ya can't even eat a banana anywhere near her, or SHE'LL go bananas!....starts frantically swimmin' toward ya, bangin' against the glass over and over again, beggin' like she ain't never been fed a damn bit of food in a friggin' lifetime. Can smell them suckers from an entire room away.

Wish all of MY senses were a quarter of what hers are.

I believe it depends on the turtle, what kind is it? Some are more fruit eaters than others, some eat more protein where another should have more greens than both of those.

Thanks for responding and sorry about the delay. The turts are yb's and res's. They all love bananas too, so I might be sticking with them no matter what.

I'd heard they had a lot of potassium.
