lkberry1 Sep 16, 2006 07:13 PM

This snake was found at home depot, but not sure where it came from. Anyone know what kind it is?

It looks to be a Northern Water snake.
Was the snake found dead or did you kill it?

It was found dead. When you say Northern Water Snake, you mean northern states, I assume? This was found, as I stated, at Home Depot in Oklahoma City, OK.

Your first post did not mention the location of the Home Depot. Was the snake found on the grounds, or inside the store? It is definitely a water snake. More pix showing the pattern on the back & perhaps the belly would make a more specific i.d. easier. The native watersnake there is the blotched, but in that picture, it looks more like a northern, which is found in Oklahoma, but not that far west.

Where your store is may well be irrelevent, as the snake may have come in with your stock plants or regular merch. It does indeed look to be a water snake.

Found inside the store. Oklahoma City, OK. Lumber department, which means it may have come in with some lumber. It was live when the first person found it, but by the time my husband got to it, and took the pictures, it had been killed. He told me he found it dead then after working this morning he talked to his co-workers and found out that one of the other workers had killed it. He thought it was something venemous. They often come across strange things in lumber when moving the wood around. Today, my husband had a black widow scurry across some wood he was moving. He said it was about an inch in diameter.

I go to that Home Depot all the time! The snake probably wasn't venomous. Probably wasn't shipped in either. There is a lot of variation in our water snakes here (from my experience).
