Incubator Fans- Where to get & wiring?

steve_harrison Sep 16, 2006 09:42 PM

Hey,

I'm building a NERD-style incubator and need to get some high quality fans to put in it. Questions- Where do you get them and how do you wire them it? Don't tell me to pull one out of an old computer, now- they aren't powerful enough!

I appreciate all responses.

Thanks,

Stevie H.

Steve, I would say those computer fans are definately powerful enough. You don't want the fans blowing so much that it dries out your eggs. You just want enough to circulate the air. Radioshack has a nice assortment of fans. The fans I purchased for my incubator are about 1.5" in diameter and they can be wired into a standard 12V 1000ma power supply. You can get 2 fans and power supply for around $50.

Good luck.

Like one made out of a large igloo cooler still need a fan to circulate the air? I am assuming the air circulation is to distribute the heat. If so would drilling small holes at the top and bottom of the cooler work or is a small fan the only way to do that?

I used a 100 qt. igloo to incubate my chondros and balls. I did not use fans, but I would highly recommend it. It's not as critical for balls, but I definately would like to have fans for incubating chondros. I'm not sure drilling holes would make much difference. Good luck.
