Ghost het Moonglow or Ghost het Albino?

Psycodelic Sep 16, 2006 10:16 PM

I recieved a interesting email today regarding my ghosts het moonglow. I was wondering what everyone thought on the topic.
Is it improper terminology to refer to a ghost het albino as a ghost het moonglow? Here is the email.

"Hello, I would think that these would are only Anerys 100% het snow since there is no way to be het hypo. Ghosts can not be het moonglow to my knowledge only het albino. Take care!"

I explained in my response that the picture along with the ad is clearly a ghost and not an anery, and that it is the same thing as saying het sunglow or het ghost.

Thanks Greg Reinert

it is 100% correct to call them het. Moonglows.

This is EXACTLY why, we have DH Sunglows, DH Ghosts, and DH Bloody Salmons.

If the Hypo is NOT a Super, it is in the heterozygous form, has one allele not a pair. So you are correct, and you may want to help out the person who replied to your ad and mention this.

It goes back to the misconception so many people have on Hypos, dominant vs. co-dominant mutations, and understanding heterozygous and homozygous. If one person didn't start out with bad info, we wouldn't have this problem.

On the other hand, how's school going? I am lucky enough to have 22 credits this semester, lol. I'm actually back home this weekend, Eagle Scout board of review, so I brought home my 66% het Bloods which I will be breeding this year. Fingers crossed.
Did you manage to hold on to the Anery you got from me, or did you end up selling him? I am still anxious to see what he produces.

Thanks Chris,

Your male is doing great but his competition this year is a little overwhelming for him (stripe hypo het albino, sunglow het. moonglow, hypo poss jungle) so I’m going to make him my full time pet! I love him he has a great personality and perfect markings for his age and wasn’t to interested in the ladies last year. If you want Ill trade him back to you for a pair of bloods lol.

As far as school goes well what can you say about being surrounded by thousands of females all prime to breed this year . Since I am at the half way point in my career as a student I decided to focus on having as much fun as I can while keeping my grades above a 3.0 and it has be working pretty well for me thus far. 22 credits you are very ambitious Perdue is no walk in the park, good for you! Met any other herpers at school? I think I’m the only student who knows the difference between a snow and moonglow lol.

I thought about explaining the genetics behind hypos to him but that always seems to open a foul can o worms so I avoided that path.

I wish you the best of luck on your breeding endeavors and good luck at Perdue!

I'm glad to hear the Anery is doing well. He was a pet here as well, poor guy.

I know what you mean about school, lol. I've got the schedule down pretty well, so it should be good. Though I may have to drop a class, I'll be starting a new job this week.

I've got a boa here that is a pet as well, and will never sell him (despite the nice bite a few weeks ago, feeding error). Argentine x Colombian cross.

I forgot to email you after I made my decision on college. I decided Cornell was a better fit for me than Purdue. There are quiet a few herp people up there, comes with the top rated Herpetology program I guess. Not too many involved in morphs, or concentrated with one species, but it is the interest that matters!

Take care,
Chris
