Anyone see the Butans?

zach_whitman Sep 17, 2006 01:57 AM

There was a pretty neat special on animal planet about the butans of the phillipines. Large, fruit and snail eating, arboreal monitors... wild stuff! Their head structure is amazing! And a zoo in manilla just recorded the first captive breeding... I thought the show was sweet.

Yeah! I finally saw the show last night after trying to see it for months.

I've seen them before. I stopped by and met with Terry Lilley one time a few months back and he showed me a couple of gray's monitors he had sold but was still holding. So I got to observe them for a little while. Turns out, that same night the butaan show aired for the first time and it was the same monitor. Awesome. If only I would have known I would have stolen them. lol

obviously, the lizards were fantastic, but, the programe was a bit boring, i think they could have done it a bit better. the amount of footage they had was minimal really, but they kept showing the same sequences throughout. now i just thought if they didnt have much to show why not make it a shorter programe? also ill mention, i seen it in britain, as thats where i live so there may have been differences.

I think what you see is what they got. I don't think that too much footage of them exists. Finding an arboreal animal that doesn't want to be found in jungle like that is really tough.
