Gecko and frogs

blueselaphe Sep 17, 2006 11:35 AM

I have a Golden gecko at home in a semi-tropical enclosure that has a large water feature. My wife put some tadpoles in there a week or so ago. My questions are: will the gecko eat the frogs (it eats everthing that moves) and if so, would they harm her? Ihaven't seen the tads as I am in Iraq but last year from the same area we had a mix of toads (which would be bad) and green tree frog tads in the same spot she found these. Thanks, sorry so long, Semper Fi, BLue

Well since the frogs are alot smaller than the gecko then i'd say that the gecko would eat them

Also I would say this falls under "quarantine any new animals." Especially with something wild caught, especially if you don't know for sure what it is, don't put it with your existing animals - can't really do any significant good, and can potentially do lots of harm. Just not worth the risk, in my opinion.

Hi guys, thanks for the input! The tads are turning out to be green tree frogs. What I was trying to find out was if other people with Golden Geckos have ever observed them eating frogs. This would be someting new being that Goldens arn't on the most watched list.
As far as quarentine, your right everyone should practice a good quarintine routine! But I'm in Iraq and my wife is NC and she doesn't know any better. So far no harm, no foul and the frogletts will go back to the pond at the next down pour!
Thanks again, Blue
