Some cool new Nicaraguan blood....

giantkeeper Sep 17, 2006 11:56 AM

The small guy should be super sweet as he ages, with that color on his head and tail area. I would imagine it will spread with age and time. He was introduced earlier in the week by Next World Exotics as a Sunfire. He is a farmed Nic.

The female is also farmed and came from Next World Exotics, she has such a strange look to her, I cannot wait till she's about 3 feet!

Thanks for looking.

still planning to breed your 66% het Bloods? If so what is your plan with them?

giantkeeper Sep 17, 2006 03:16 PM

putting them together. But we are going to be putting together 5-7 more pairs of boas as well. No heat and off feed in January - mid Feb. Turn the heat back on and start nailing the food for the girls again....oh yes, the new angle is going to be 80% humidity. In years past we have never worried much about humidity. This year it is one of the top three factors to watch.

Temps, humidity, and food.....

Why do you believe high humidity is important?

giantkeeper Sep 18, 2006 02:06 PM

other breeders, they believe this plays a huge roll in the health and breeding of captive boas.

With the bad luck we have had with breeding trials over the last 5 years, I really do not think it could make things any worse.

Chris,
What age and size are your 66% het bloods. Id they are 04's do you plan to put them together this year?
Are they 100% dwarf or have they been crossed into the Colombians? if they are crossed, what is your opinion on the size of the females for breeding. For example, a female central american will breed at 4ft-5ft, what about a female centralxcolombian? Any opinions?
thanks,
Warren

I have several female Central Americans that are pure and I will try and breed them this season at 4' and 2 1/2 years of age. I also have a 4' Colombian X Nicaraguan female that is 4' and will be 2 1/2 years of age that I will try and breed.

I also have some pure and very small Nicaraguans that I will try and breed this season. If anything comes of that I will elaborate more at that time.

On another note I have some 3 & 4 year old Colombian girls that have stayed small (fat but short in length) that I will be attempting to breed.

With the exception of of 2 5-6' salmon males to a 9' female, all of my boa breeding will consist of animals that are hardly longer than 4'.

Hi,
thanks for the feedback. I have been thinking about pairing mine this coming season for most of the summer but always worried about the size. If she were a pure central I would not have a problem, however, as she is a cross I wasn't sure. I think I will give her a go. I still have a few months to get a few more adult rats into her. She is certainly bigger than a lot of the sonoran and central americans that I have bred in the past so if she breeds, she breeds. If not, I am happy to wait the extra year. Time will tell.
Similar to you I have several colombians that are under 6ft and refuse to grow any longer, despite their feeding schedule. They get fatter but not longer. Its funny, until yesterday I was happy with the size of these 6ft or under females. Then I picked up an 8ft, 50lb monster het albino female and a 6ft poss het albino female and they dwarf the others. We see variation all around us, so why should we not expect it also in snake size?

Born i June '04 I believe. They are from lineage of an El Salvador Blood X Salmon breeding.

The female is over 6 ft. and about the size of a coke can, the male is just over 4ft. and about the size of a watch face.
