I work at a Petco, and we occasionally get in garters. Now, I've read that they should get exclusively rosie red minnows, or pinkies, and NOT goldfish, due to something in the goldfish blocking the absorption of a certain nutrient...? Should I also reserve a cup of earthworms for store use for the snakes when we get them in?
I want to know more about this, and while yes, I'll be googling it, I'd love to also get the opinions of people who keep and breed the gorgeous snakes. I want to make sure that when people buy these snakes, they feed them properly.

That and I'm disputing this with the other reptile specialist and I want to make sure I'm right. :D

1.1 normal ball pythons (Cindy and Darwin)
1.0 rex rat (Scurvy)
0.1 bunny (Spazz)
2.1 betta fishes (Vicious, Killer, and Butters)
3.1 great danes (Shasta, Odysseus, Merlot, and Watson)
1.0 fat fuzzy mutt (Smokey)
1.1 cats (Thidwick and Turtle)
2.0 horses (Buddy and Sam)
1.0 goat (Billy Jack)
2.25 chickens (Jacques the rooster and his harem)

but what I really want is more ball pythons!

Different species of garters eat different foods. True, most will take fish, and many will take worms, but they also regularly eat amphibians and some really like mammals. Checkered garters take readily to mice.
In fact, if you get the garters of size, mice would be my recommendation.
Goldfish are bred and raised in a melange of toxic chemicals and routinely poison animals that feed on them exclusively.
