Hello,

I just recent purchased a 1yr old female Sulcata. She is being fed every other day and is kept in an outdoor pen daily in the San Diego area (temps mid 80's to mid 70's @ night). I have fed her kale, greens, and some pear based jar (pet store) tortoise food. The othet day I notice she has thrown up some white stuff. Looks a little like cottage cheese. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

are you positive that she threw them up? It could be badly formed urates (i've had some the fit your description from my russians). If you're positive it's vomit (the only way to really be positive is to see it happen), then there's probably something wrong with the tortoise's gut flora. Have you treated for parasites? Parasite treatments can sometimes kill off all of the positive bacteria in their digestive system which makes it hard or impossible to digest food. It can also happen if a reptile goes too long without eating in the wrong conditions.

But the most important advice I can give is that if it keeps happening you should call a qualified vet and set up an appointment if necessary.

You should read up a bit more on diet reccomendations. As ryan mentioned unless you saw the tort throwup its most likely urates. The main chunk of the diet (70%) should be grasses. The rest can be a mixture of greens (collard, kale, mustard, dandelion

there was a lot more to my post but it got erased. Dont know what happend. Work on your diet, be sure that its throwup before persuing the problem. Stay away from fruit based commercial products ( or any commercial products)
