Calico? Lots of pics

HerpZillA Sep 17, 2006 06:56 PM

OK, I posted a pic of my wannabe bloodred and asked why was she getting white on her saddles. Someone Tim, mentioned that calicos get white as they aged. Well, I have seen only a few pictures on the web and really like what I saw. But the calicos I saw had more linier color marking. But, hay I have no idea on calicos. So I found a few pictures I took from Feb 2006 when I get her on my birthday as I recall, and after her first shed and I was disappointemnt and actually posted those the pictures on KS. I personally think she's really cool looking with the red variation, but I know she's not a good BR as someone else pointed out it may not carry the diffused gene. So, On with the show.

So, First pic Feb 2006

2d pics mar 13ish 2006 after her first shed for me

3rd set take this month, first pic shes on the right.

OK, I feel bad for people on dial up if they loaded all that.

But she has a very different look than when I got her.

Any and all comments appreciated.

Yeah, I agree. She's turned out really bad looking. I'll take her off your hands so you won't have to deal with her.

Just kidding. It's amazing how much they can change over a few months. Very nice looking.

Now that I've seen the "new improved" photos, I'm not so sure about my "calico theory." I think there's a calico pic in the newest Corn Snake Manual.

Once upon a time, circa 1982, I bought a normal corn snake at the POP and it had white, somewhat like yours. Sometimes the color seems to fade in certain spots. That snake may also be a hypo, if so, then it might make sense that white is appearing where black should be.

I have an amel Honduran. Normal Hondurans often get black "tipping" on their scales as they age. Mine is getting white tipping. Maybe something similar is happening to your corn.

What the $#@! is that red snake on the left in picture 4? Male or female? Send it over to my house without delay!

Yea, I was not to overly optimistic about them being calicos. She's still cool what ever fugly genetic combo she is. You once told me, to be a herp breeder you need patience. I may hold back all her babies to see what they do after 2 years. Is that patience? It is for me. Maybe I can line breed some mutant genetic behemoth bogeyman bas***d blood red, and show the hybrid world you can do it with only 1 species. (Sorry about my alliteration, I use to be found of those) Like big Betty's bouncing,, er never mind

Anyways, the anerys and both bloods will be at POP tonight.
