DAILY INDIA (India) 15 September 06 Snake 'pursuing' boy caught
Agra (IANS): In what seems like a Bollywood drama, a 12-year-old boy finally got off a 'machan' where he had spent six days after villagers caught a snake that was apparently pursuing him for having hurt it.
An elderly hermit-cum-snake charmer managed to trap the three-foot snake after lying in wait for almost a week in Taharpur village, 25 km from here, witnesses said.
The terrified boy heaved a sigh of relief and came down the eight-foot-tall platform to the cheers of villagers who had ordered him sit on it for the last six days to prevent the snake from biting him.
The drama drew media attention as men armed with bamboo sticks and women singing songs threw a ring around the 'machan' in the village.
The boy told the villagers that he had spotted the snake more than once and he was convinced it wanted to kill him.
Apparently, he had hurt the snake inadvertently when he dropped his bag on it while crossing a road. Some villagers also claimed to have seen the determined 'nagin'.
