Gray Bandeds for Beginners

toiletoctopus Sep 18, 2006 02:43 AM

I happen to think that these snakes are the most beautiful, but don't know a lot about them. Are they a good choice for a beginner, and how is their disposition? I'd like a snake that is calm when handled, and although I'm not a fan of something flighty, I'd be happier with that then a biter. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and this site is among the best I've found.

If they are already eating frozen thawed mice, then they are a great snake for beginners. I bought a grayband after many years of not have a reptile, and she is great. They are just a little flighty when they are hatchlings, but nothing most people can't handle. I have 6 of them and every one of them is docile. The female I was mentioning, and is pictured in the bottom pic,is the most docile snake I have. Most baby snakes are a little flighty and they might musk you. I just hatched out 7 graybands in July, and none of them musk me anymore. I have never been bitten by a grayband. If you did get bitten by a grayband, you would find out that it is no big deal. It just surprises you, but it doesn't hurt if they're small. Good luck! Derek
