If I can find a male to pair this girl up with, I will be.

She's nice. Was the picture taken as you found her?

No it was not. I wanted an in situ photo but, I was talking to another herper between the S-curves, and worked my way back towards teh truck. I then got in the truck with my bro and dad, who started driving off. They proceded to ask what they woudl get (financially) if they found me a snake. I told them we would worry about that when it cam up, so my dad sticks his hand up fron and says, "well what about this one?" I about crapped myself, a alterna phase juno, and they were not even going to tell me about it. I was exstatic, but they didnt think about a pic. The pic was taken a couple nights latter, north of bakers, Bill Love wanted a couple pics, so I took some at the same time.

Eby your post gave me as good a laugh as I've had in a long time! Good humor is part of the reason I love keeping dailed in to this forum.

I have had success this year with our Juno pair. We found them at or near the s-curves two years ago. The father is a dark phase and the mom is a light phase - both blairs. All five neonates - blairs phase -have come out well and will go through their first sheds soon. I want to hold two back for future breeding.

Marlon, Nice work. Did you find them cruising or out walking around the ditches at the S-curves? Both on the same trip or different trips?

Tom, actually we found three alterna that night. I made a post about it two summers ago when we scored three alterna on Juno, the first day of summer in 2004. What made that night even more strange was the fact that we only saw three snakes all night long. We spent about eight hours that night on Juno road. The first find was at dusk - a 26" female right on the road on the s-curve at 9:15 or so. We saw nothing until 1:54 am when we found a large 37" male on the shoulder of the road exactly one quarter of a mile south of our first alterna. Three minutes later we bagged our third alterna of the night - smaller 18" male at 1:57 am, one quarter of a mile north of the first s-curve animal. This third one was apparently parasitic, as it sickened almost immediatley after we brought it home and perished within a month or two. No atroxes, no blacktails, nothing other than those three all night long. It was truly a night to remember.

A three in one night has got to get the adrenaline pumpin! And must be up there as a record in recent history. That's incredible.

I got two clutches from my 12 year old pair. The first clutch was laid while I was on vacation, outside of the nest box so only two made it--a blair's phase and an alterna phase. Both adults are alterna, male dark and female light. The second clutch she laid 7 perfect eggs and all hatched last week. 6 were alterna phase and 1 was a nice blair's. Here is a photo of the first one of the second clutch that hatched along with the two from the first clutch. The "intermediate" one is the one from the second clutch. I'll post shots of the others once they shed.

Nice looking alterna! I would love to see the rest of the animals from those clutches. I am looking to breed a female alterna phased Juno I got from Jim Dobis if I can find a Juno male to pair her up with.

Tom Anderson Sep 20, 2006 07:13 PM

Hey Bob! Are you working with alterna phase? Any pictures?

dangerdan Sep 21, 2006 12:15 PM

One stunning Juno alterna phase with no red, I may keep it but should have some stunning snakes next year.

Here is a pic of the W/C Juno father.

Jim if he will let you borrow a male if your female is breeding size? I have an AWESOME male from Juno I got from Ric Blair, NEON orange small bands with very few alternates. He is probably my best alterna (next to the Hueco female).

I will have to rememember to take some pics soon.

Best Wishes,

Steven

The female I have was sired by Jim's male, so I want to get a little genetic diversity. And we moved to Florida, so it's not as easy as it used to be to swing over to Jim's place!
