Some years back, I read an excellent series of books (Red, Green & Blue Mars) regarding the future terraforming and colonization of Mars . Although obviously fictional, the books extrapolated from past and current scientific and cultural developments to paint an easily believable (at least to me) future with some amazing scientific and cultural "advances".
One of the issues addressed in the third book (Blue Mars) was using animal genes to "enhance" humans. I forget most of the specific traits that were developed. Some were trivial (such as using feline genes to cause a female character to "purr" like a cat) and others very functional (such as nocturnal animal genes to enhance nightvision). The point, however, is that once this technology is developed, no law will prevent it from being used. It may never be mainstream, but it will happen.
We have finally "evolved" to the point that we can control our own evolution.
What will we become?

Great article thanks for the link. I read yrs ago the Chinese wanted "soldiers" that were expendable yet had the ability to follow orders and do simple tasks like carry bombs ,etc.
I thought it was a hoax . A planet of the Apes type of thing lol .
