coyote12899 Aug 05, 2003 02:37 PM

I got a club tail on friday the Aug 1. It won't eat or drink. I have a spiny tail so I am not totally stupid about this. Right now it is soaking in a saucer of water, I also keep misting the tank. Any help???

I'd say be patient. It took Tempest weeks to settle in and start eating again, and from what I've heard thats not unusual. Leave extra yummy food in his enclosure, make sure he feels safe and private, and he might start nibbling. Nice photo btw

the ig in the pic is 21 inches I have had him since Feb. The little one still won't eat I am going to mix a little cat food in today

PLEASE do not feed your iguana cat food-it is very bad for any folivore I forget how long its been since he hasnt eaten, but if its only been a few days and everything else (space, heat, humidity) etc is fine, and a vet does a fecal and can rule out parasites, i wouldnt be worried.

He is a ctenosaura palearis , a club tail, he is not a common green iguana. The cat food may not be the best and it was only a tad mixed with baby food banana, lots more banana than cat food. It got him to nibble on a bit.

Deb, the cat food is fine as long as you don't make it a staple, which I know you won't. You've only had the clubtail for a few days and it's not unusual for them not to eat for a while. The little Ctenosaurus Conspicuosa that I received from Mark M. almost a month ago still isn't eating really well. She does like the adult iguana pellets from RepCal tho and that makes sense since Mark feeds a lot of pelleted food.
Give the lizard some time to acclimate and settle in. Don't bother it too much for the first couple of weeks....feed, water, clean, but don't handle too much. Put it in a low traffic area also. Make sure the temps are correct and high enough. Have you offered any insects at all? You may want to try a cricket or two or maybe a few waxworms.
It would be nice to see you at the show Saturday.

Is a club tail like a chuckwalla? I would be interested in seeing the tail, if you have a picuture!
