exo-terra 18x18x24 help with waterfall

krowleey Sep 19, 2006 12:39 AM

i bought a exo-terra terrarium, 18x18x24, using two 20 inch all glass strip lights with 2 lifeglow 2 6700k bulbs. what i want to do is a false bottom with a water fall to house dart frogs. i bought the egg crate and fiberglass screening, and i ordered the ceramic substrate to use for drainage.

would anyone have some ideas how i could set this up with a recirculating waterfall maybe using a possible powerhead etc? how can i enclose the pump and what pump should i use, and how do i pool the water etc lol any advice is MUCH appreciated!!!!!

you are doing the right thing by doing a false bottom.
1) buy a water pump and put it in the place you want it to be with the tubing comming out of one of the eggcrate holes.
2) build the false bottom tank around it and silicone PVC and stuff down to the bottom of the tank.
3)for the eggcrate top cut an access hole so you can get to the pump without taking everyting apart.
4)test the water pump by putting water in the tank
5) plan out where you want the water area to be, in that area cut the eggcrate, then using the eggcrate make a slope and silicone the two pieces together.
6)then cover the top and slope with screen and cover with a layer of gravel.
7)where you make the water come out is up to you, i think it looks good with pieces of grey slate for the water to run down or sometimes if you can find a piece of wood with a hole in it it lookes neat comming out of that. or you could do something else. heres a good link-
