Bugs in tank

el_toro Sep 19, 2006 11:31 AM

Apparently some bugs have moved in to Rory's cage overnight. They're tiny and they jump. They're about the same size as fungus gnats you might get on an overwatered houseplant (maybe a little smaller), but they don't fly. I checked Rorschach over, but she has nothing on her skin - they don't seem to be bothering her. Any ideas what they might be or how I can get rid of them?

Little whitish/grayish guys that jump (springtails) do you have any wood in there? Any real plants? I get them in my redeye tree frog tanks, under and around the tree limbs/logs I use or around the bottom of the plants.

If it is them, they do not hurt anything they are the clean =up crew so to speak.

That sounds like them! There's 5 live plants in the tank, so it sounds likely it's springtails! Thanks, Eve!

They're teensy weensy crickets! I got a good look at one last night! Punky little things had babies! I think I would have preferred springtails, but at least it's better than mites.

And to put everyone's mind at ease, there IS food in the tank daily for rogue crickets.
