A 9 1/2-foot snake is on the loose in Weirton.
But the owner of the Burmese python pleaded with the person who finds his pet to please not hurt it.
Alexis, the Newbrough family's pet python, escaped sometime Monday evening from an apartment in the 3600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.
Kelly Newbrough said the python many have escaped through a new patio door the family had installed.
Newbrough advised neighbors to put their small pets inside in case the snake attacks them.
Newbrough said pythons can prey on cats, guinea pigs and even small dogs.
The Weirton Police Department has been notified about the situation.
If you see the snake, don't try to capture or kill it.
