By way of introduction, my name is Typhanie. I'm a long time herp owner. At the moment I've got 1.0 Uromastix Benti and 1.0 Common (Green) Iguana. Both are adoptees from families that no longer wanted them.
The iguana (as yet still unnamed; the family gave me no name for him, and I've only had him for three days) appears to be four to five years old, and is very healthy and mild tempered. He took to his new surroundings with uncommon ease, and despite the family's insistance that they never held or handled him at all, he has not once shown more than mild distress at having me near him. I settled him in on Sunday and all through yesterday he'd shy away from me when I opened the cage, but he wouldn't hesitate to grab the food right out of my hand. By today, he was coming right over to me, allowing me to stroke him.
However, when I do touch him, he does this thing where he leans into my hand. It's very strange to me. The iguana I had before never did that. But this one will just press really hard against my hands, almost to the point where I'm afraid he'll fall over if I pull away quickly.
Is this a sign of aggression? A "This is my territory, get out!" movement? Or is it that he's not feeling well? Or does he just feel that comfortable? I tend to believe it's not the last option. And though I have a routine vet visit scheduled for him, he seems extremely healthy; well fed and active. I'm just not sure what this behavior means. Can anyone help me out?
(If this has been brought up before, I'm sorry. I gave the older messages a cursory glance, but nothing extensive.)
