What to do with uneaten food?

shadowmonkey01 Sep 19, 2006 09:31 PM

My question is what is the best thing to do with uneaten prey items. I bought a baby boa and she didnt eat this week, but she is still in the quaratine stage. Is it okay to return them to the colony or will they possibly contaminate the other mice and pass disease on to the other boas I have. And if this is so will freezing the mouse kill off the bad stuff that could be present.

Freezing should kill *most* relevant parasites, same as with human foods!

Uneaten live food, freeze and keep for that snake ONLY.
Uneaten f/t food, throw away.

If you must save it put it in a ziplock and write the snakes name or number on it so you know who it's for. If it's frozen thawed toss it. No sence in risking passing what ever one snake could have to another for a few dollars.

If the boa is still in quarantine then throw it away. New boas should all go through a quarantine period. If it is a boa you have had a long time and you are certain the snake is healthy then you can freeze it.

Just keep one of those BP's around to take care of unwanted
prey items.
