HELP ARE EGGS HATCHING OR DYING

mike3 Aug 05, 2003 03:15 PM

Today is day 72 of incubation and one of my malis eggs is shrivled up. Not a lot just 2 slite indents on the top. These indents have been there for 3 days now. The indents slightly grew during this time period. All of the other eggs didn't change at all. Is it hatching, or is it dieing? Also, i have them in a container with lids on them with no holes. Now that they should start hatching should i punch some holes in the lids so the hatchlings can breath or should i not do anything at all and just keep an eye on them. Please respond as soon as possible i dont want to lose this clutch of malis eggs when they have been doing great for so long.

Hi

I just had a batch of ornates hatch, and they started shriveling two weeks before they hatched, they actually got so bad I really did think the eggs were going bad, but sure enough they all started coming out. What is your incubation temps? I keep my containers sealed even when they are about to hatch. I would open the lid twice daily at this point for air exchange, and the babies will be fine.

My eggs are being incubated at 92-93 degrees F. I have them in a cealed container and do not touch them that often. Should i open up the container 2 times a day for air exchange or are they fine? Today is day 73, at that temp aren't these guys a little late?

PS
The egg that was shriviled up started to regain its normal shape when i took it out of the incubator. When i put it back in it started to collapse again. Does this sound like hatching to you?

IF the egg regains it shape and then shrivels back in the incubator it sounds like it will be hatching. They have gone over their date, but it sounds like your getting the signs of inpending hatching. I would still open the container at least once daily for air exchange. I opened mine twice at the end just to give the eggs more oxygen. Keep us informed if you see any egg slitting.

This morning when i checked the eggs another one of the eggs just started to collapse. Also, The really shriviled up egg has a small dark line about 3 mm long. It has been there for about 1 week now. What is that. When i candled the egg before it started to collapse the dark line was glowing? Its not a vein but what is it? It is day 74 now.
