Chris Harper....

Hi Chris! Wondering if I could get a quick opinion from you or one of the other know how guys.

I am using the big gray Rubbermaid table busing boxes you see used at restruants with the lids for hide boxes for some of my cages. unfortunately they allow some residual light to enter because the plastic is tough but not dark enough.I want the animals to have a nice dark hide that they would feel less sressed in.

I have used that Fusion paint but it seems to have a lot of residual fumes. The milk paint is something I have and picked up the Behlens salad bowl sealer but I think I would have to do many coats on the inside lid and the instructions for the sealer seem lenghty.

What do you think of contact paper on the inside top of the lid to darken the interior. Do you think the adhesive they use for that would at all be toxic to a snake spending lots of time inside?

I have also thought to get some kind of dark plastic and using aquarium sealent to secure it to the inside lid.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Always appreciate your time.
Bob

Bob,

I think a dark contact paper would work well to darken up the interior. It is my understanding the adhesives used on these products are water based but that does not mean they are completely solvent free. If there is any concern with this, simply apply the contact paper on the outside.

The plastic idea would also work.
