Bull Snake

colubrids Sep 20, 2006 11:51 AM

I keep a variety of colubrids and am getting ready to receive my first set of Bull snakes. It is my understanding that they will do well under the same care guidelines of my colubrid collection, but just thought I would ask the regular bull keepers here.

Is there any differences I should do in husbandry set up for my new bulls? They will be hatchlings that have had about 3 meals and one shed when I receive them.

The only difference I would recommend is to make sure they are not kept too warm, as some would perhaps keep kings and milks. 78-80-82 at the very most.

Keep us posted! And also, congrats!!! You will love them!

Feed them prekilled prey once they get to adult mouse eating size. Bulls can be pretty sloppy constrictors and it only takes one bad bite to an eye or mouth. Also they generally don't like to climb so long cages are better than tall.
