question on eye problem...

gardenmum Sep 20, 2006 03:01 PM

I got this little girl from the pet shop I do business with. She came in with an eye that has something wrong with it so I took her home. I was wondering if anyone has seen this before and could tell me if it is perminent, if it will cause any problems to the snake.

The eye is obviously swollen, it looks whitish when you look down on it but if you look straight at it, it looks a little glassy but otherwise normal colored. The snake is very active, eats very well and has normal stool. No sign of mites or anything. I figured I'd give her a little time to see if it gets better before bringing her to the vet since I am not sure my vet will know what to do but figured I'd ask here in the meantime.

She is such a pretty girl, I hope it is something that will get better or that she can live with.

I would at least call my Vet. and ask some quest. ocular problems are fairly universal in reptiles. So any competent Vet will be able to say what the problem is.

i saw that normally in my liasis pythons, in them it was a sign of a repitory infection, get it to the vet asap.

It is a retained eye cap
If it is loose enough that you can grab it pell it of. If you cant leave it and next time she sheds it should come off. If it doesnt then get to a vet. My snakes have this occasionally. Its from a bad shed. Increase the humidity to about 80 for a day. Then let it go back to normal. Its fine happens all the time...
