LEEWAY CORUCIA RESEARCH CENTER (LCRC)

The following I have provided in an effort to help those working with the species: Coria amboinensis (underlined).

Note: This is not a fully researched scientific Paper - but a guide.

There are 4 species documented for Coria Amboinensis (underlined)

C.a. amboinensis
C.a. couro
C.a. kamarona
C.a lineata

References:

The Ultimate Turtle page www.turtlepuddle.org/coura/amboinensis.html
Filea, eduard 1997. Coria amboinensis la tort igucaju (the South eastern asian turtle and it's subspecies) Reptilia 3/(13) :43-47.

C.a. Lineata easily distinguishable by light stripe along keel of carapace.
C.a. kamarona -more domed carapace and smaller, more elongated spotting of black pigments of plastron.
C.a. amboinensis >
c.a. couro > Darker more oval black spots on plastron, flatter carapace >it is the lack of complete differentiation of the latter two subspecies that make this an observational topic only.

MEASUREMENTS (Taken at the LCRC):

Coura amboinensis kamarona (underlined)
Average ratio of carapace length/ height: 2.82
Average ratio dimensions of plastron spots: 2.14 (small and elongated)

Coura amboinensis amboinensis? (underlined)

Average ratio of carapace length / height: 3.08
Average ratio dimensions of plastron spots: 1.21 (almost circular)

I hope this will help in proper subspecies identification.

If anyone has additional data to add to this please post it here or write the LCRC.

Sincerely,
Brian

Addendum:

The carapace measurements were,of course, done in standard straight length measurements that are standard in carapace measurements.
