Feeding Big Spiders to Collared Lizards

ETChipotle Aug 05, 2003 03:55 PM

Last night on my way home, I walked across a bridge that goes over the Mississippi River. There was a large number of fairly fat bodied spiders making thier evening webs.

Would it be okay to collect one of these for each of my lizards to eat?

I could get 100 of them if I wanted, but I was thinking it might be more reasonable to feed each guy just one.

I remember someone posted about feeding wolf spiders awhile back.

Well, I only feed them wolf spiders that are, say 1 inch long, give or take this much: -- . LOL I don't find them too often, but it really depends on the size, I have found ones 2 inches long, and that is two big. (I'm afraid they might end up chewing Jane up! LOL) How big are these spiders you are talking about? And what kind?

I've been feeding small wolf spiders to my banded geckos with good results. The size of the spiders can be comparatively larger than standard prey, in my experience, because the spiders tend to be soft-bodied and easily crushed to a more manageable size (plus their legs often make the spider look bigger than it actually is).

I fed really bigspiders to my lizard back in the Netherlands.

Off course really big there is a body of about1/4 Inch.

He absolutly loved them and the bigger the spider was. The more he wanted it.

If these spiders are not venemous I would say find the biggest ones you can find!!
he will love you for it. I would say ultimate nutricion!
