What kind of albino is this?

cyco Sep 20, 2006 07:38 PM

Does this albino leo have a specific type of name? The orange in it really seperates itself from my other albino. Thanks for any help.

Bell Albino. Poor little thing...looks awkward with out a tail.

cyco Sep 20, 2006 07:59 PM

Yeah, it really broke my heart when she lost it.

Sara2 Sep 20, 2006 08:48 PM

Looks more like a dark tremper albino.

Yeah, It's totally a Bell though.

ok, so what's mine then? She's about a year old now - the pic is from 3 months ago, caught her sleeping out under her light - don't they get into the weirdest positions when they sleep? I keep thinking Tremper, but my girlfriend says Bell:

Cute, looks like one of my breeders. Yeah I'd say it's a Bell. Sometimes it's hard to tell but I'm pretty sure both of those leo's are Bell Albino.

cottonmouth111 Sep 21, 2006 01:27 AM

Oh yeah, heres a pic of her.

CoolGecko Sep 21, 2006 03:11 PM

Not Bell... I worked with many bells and worked with them for 3 years or more.... It is simple dark Tremper albino... None of bells look like that not with that all brown with lanvnder. Bells are alot more virbant than that... SO I think it is Tremper... Not Bell... If from Petco then it is Tremper period.

I did not get mine from Petco. That is a pretty bold statement too. Petco has different breeders depending on location. I got mine from a local breeder who stated it was Bell, which reptilemadness stated it was Bell also as I asked the forum which kind it was.

Check out my photo gallery, I have lots of bell albinos posted.
Those in the pics are all dark or"chocolate trempers".
Bells have quite a unique look to them, and the eyes are still red as adults unlike the trempers.

Ok, I'm not 100% sure about the other geckos, but I know mine is a Bell. Ok Sara, if you click on your breeders, number 5 looks exactly like mine. You guys are probably right about the others being Tremper...I am stubborn at times, I admit.

Sara2 Sep 21, 2006 04:38 PM

I looked at the pic of yours again and it still looks like a tremper to me. Of course almost no one can be 100% sure from pics, your only way to be 100% certain is to bred her to a bell albino male. I have never seem a bell with such dark bands espeacially in the tail. Do you have a better pic?
Is she very sensative to light? I would ask who you got her from if they know the liniage for certain. Do you have a better pic? Maybe the pic is too dark.

I would have to agree with CoolGeckos on this one... Those look much more like trempers, not bells... It can be very hard to tell the strains apart and you can not tell them apart just by looks all of the time...

Also as stated, if they are bought in a chain pet store chances are very high that they are either Tremper or LVs... A Bell albino would be a very rare find in a chain pet store...

cottonmouth111 Sep 21, 2006 04:24 PM

Maybe you misunderstood me...I said that is a bold statement to make. I DID not say you will find Bell Albino's at Petco, Petsmart, ect.

sleepygecko Sep 21, 2006 04:30 PM

Well I'm confused. My gecko looks like the above ones and I was told she was a Bell. Looking through breeders sites I have always found trempers to be lighter and usually lose their pattern whereas bells keep theirs. Now mind you, an image search will say that no one seems to know what kind of gecko they have as you can find above geckos labeled both and I'm not breeding so I haven't done a lot of research.

Red eyes, it is my understanding, were just the RAPTOR lines, and that's about the only thing I'm sure about.

BTW I just checked Tremper's own website, his lines don't look like the aboves.

I'm interested if we can come to a consensus, I'm curious.

Individual geckos of the same strain of albino can look very different. There has been so much line breeding and combinations of different morphs into the albinos that theres are now normal albinos, hypo, superhypo albinos, snow/supersnow albinos patternless albinos, etc.

this pic is of two bell albinos, one tangerine and one hypo (or hybino)

here's a hatchling tangerine bell....

and a more normal bell....

So you can see there are all types of bells as well.
Trempers have way more morphs at this point as well.

Seems like the only real consensus we've achieved is that it's hard to be certain.

Mine did not come from a big chain pet store - she came from a little store that specializes in reptiles. The store owner said she thought the leopards they had at the time were Bells, but she didn't sound completely sure, thus my question. Ah well, in the end, it's enough for me that she's cute & healthy, and I'm not about to start breeding (I just don't have the room to take care of that many geckos or the energy to try to find them permanent homes, so it would be irresponsible at best), so I may never know for sure.
