leo cages with mesh

yoimb0b Sep 20, 2006 10:17 PM

Are these alright? i have a cage thats 4 feet long by 2 feet wide by 2 feet tall, and id like to make the front mesh, instead of glass. The rest of the cage is wood. Will this be bad? the room im keeping the cage is is always hot since its upstairs, and id have heat lights, so heat escaping isnt a problem. Has anyone done this with leo's? used a cage with mesh?

I would be worried about crickets chewing holes in the mesh, or leos climbing the mesh and falling from 2 foot up. But then again I've never tried so I really can't say.

I'm sure you could probably think of something to keep the geckos from climbing up though.

I doubt you could keep them from climbing it - a friend of mine used to put his on a window screen every now and then, and that lizard would climb up it looking happier than at any other time . Kodos' claws gave him great grip on the screen, so presuming the gecko doesn't stay up there until it's exhausted, it'd probably be ok. Of course, asking a gecko to be responsible is probably expecting too much, so I would worry about falls...
