Pores or burns?

kat1204 Sep 21, 2006 05:27 AM

Hi,

When I got my beardie I thought he had burns on his back legs from lying on a uv bulb.(they are on his underside along both back legs by his vent.

I have since seen pictures on the net, refering to these marks as pores?

Do all beardies have them, and what are they used for?

Thanx

All bearded dragons have femoral pores though these are more pronounced in adult males. I beleive their use is secretion of pharmones or territory markings. A waxy substance often ooses out of them in adult males. Not sure if female pores also do this. In either case, they are normal.

These pores are situated along the underside of the thighs, spaced evenly apart and are oval or round in shape. They are not overly large, so if you have irregular spaced and shaped marks, or they are quite large, what you are seeing may not be the pores, especially if they occur only on one leg, or only one or two on each leg (I think there is about 4-6 per leg of these pores)
