reptiles and my consequences ( and others )of the KC area. As i sat here and viewed the post on media interviews and what to expect, I couldn't help but think of my own problems of such of past and should of said something. But would it of made a difference ? Back in the hey day of keeping and breeding wild caught pythons, we had an exchange of interested news channels wanting to do a feature story on us as the keepers of pythons. It all seemed innocent at the time but when the interview went to broadcast, it was edited and statements was skewed as h##l. The interview wanted to include the keeping as far as cages and feeding. We had a group of African rock pythons ( 3 ) that had to be separated for feeding. One snake had to be fed out of the cage, one in cage, and the smallest female in a huge trash container. while we explained all as in no snake was kept in the container full time, the news and broadcast seemed to have forgotten this information and stated that we in fact DID keep a python in a trash container ! We were visited by animal control as well as the humane society the next day.
The other sever ramifications , and everybody in the KC area will remember this, the " Alligator Lady " of Kansas City that saved and rescued gators and caimans from none wanting homes and had her facility previously ( for years )OKed by animal control , went to do a awareness program of the sales and keeping of crocodilians with the media and a news channel. It got her in trouble and all of the crocodilians was confiscated due to a city zoning law. She had been keeping some of these animals for over 20 years and had a integrated stock tanks-ramps-system to a penned in area to outdoors plus ran a in home water treatment system for her keeps. She was famous also for the research of the detrimental effect / problems of fluoridation in municipal water supply on humans and animals in captivity.
