What kind of King am I?

Nokturnel Tom Sep 21, 2006 05:50 PM

Besides freakin awesome! This is a yearling, you could have fit 10 of these in a deli cup when I got them last year. There was talk of even freezing them as they were not in the best shape..2 of 5 made it to date. I am glad I babied these as this is one helluva snake Tom Stevens

Uhh, thats a very contentious snake.

bluerosy Sep 21, 2006 06:01 PM

Is that a Sean special?

Nokturnel Tom Sep 21, 2006 06:07 PM

We'll call it the "silencer" for now. I know you can't tell in the pic but of all things it seems to be turning GREEN and it looks freaking amazing. The other is opaque as can be.....I will get pics of him soon. Tom Stevens

Oh thats the Goini Hypo Brooksi cross. I thought it was a Brooksi Eastern cross that Rainer was doing. Either way handsome snake.

That snake looks like a bunch of goiniXbrooks that I've seen. Double het for blaze and hypo.

Nokturnel Tom Sep 21, 2006 11:29 PM

Correct. However I doubt the crosses you are seeing are more than Goini X Brooksi. I am unaware of any crosses even het for Hypo, and definitely not Blaze X Hypo. Have you seen any??

I haven't seen any het blaze/hypo, but I've seen plenty of het hypos. I remember Mark Bell selling a yearling that looked almost exactly like that. I've also seen het lavender and het axanthics.

Nokturnel Tom Sep 22, 2006 09:37 AM

Yes, I have seen Brandons smokin Axanthic crosses and have seen the Lavs too, I love them both as they're excellent looking snakes. But I think I may have the only pair of Blaze X Hypo and hope they produce some nice babies. The Blaze has not been plugged into any other Kings as far as I know and I think it is unique and will create things we may not have seen before. That's what I am hoping for anyway. Tom Stevens

BING BING BING BING BING BING...

and yes, Tom got them from me.

Upscale Sep 22, 2006 08:12 AM

Please catch me up. Has it been decided/determined that the Blaze trait is true Hypererythristic? Is it to be expected that breeding two of the example Goini x Brooks double hets would produce a hypomelanistic/hypererythristic combination- a hypo Blaze? (I am sure we will come up with a fancier name than that!)

Tony D Sep 22, 2006 10:29 AM

I'm not sure if we've determined exactly what blaze is other than knowing that it isn't compatable with any line of hypo brooks. IMHO its a type of hypomelanism and the only reason that the originals were "BLAZING" red was because they came out of a hi red project. I had a pair of blaze which were one of the first, and least red, Chriss and Shela let go and they produced some very hypo looking snakes that were not very red at all along with some really nice blazing neonates. Because of this experience I think that blaze is the first true morph to come out of captive-bred goini population and that line breeding and out corssing to other projects will produce some even more stunning animals in the future. I can't wait to see a truely patternless, hi red blaze goini!!

crimsonking Sep 23, 2006 06:41 AM

Tony I thought you produced at least one fine looking goini that was very red and nearly patternless? He was not crossed with hypo FL though was he?
It will be cool to see what the blaze x hypo breedings (hets x hets)produce, but I wonder if they will remain red any longer than really nice red ones without the blaze trait...
I haven't seen a blaze that's kept that color have you?
Sure would be cool.
Meanwhile, I'll keep pluggin' away...

Its a cross between a blaze phase goini and a hypo brooks. Rainer and I undertook the cross specifically to see if alligations that blaze goini were simple goini crossed to hypo brooks were true. Turned out blaze is its own thing and the allegations were patently false.

A few things about the neonates produced. Rainer shipped me the female brooks and after copulation she was shipped back to Rainer. The eggs were laid and hatched under Rainers care but we believe the neonates came out runted because of the stress the female experienced during shipping. My take was to euthenize the entire clutch but Rainer gave them to Tom and OMG what a great job he has done with them!!!! Dude seeing that snake so robust just rocks!!

Nokturnel Tom Sep 22, 2006 03:24 PM

I gave these snakes some TLC and once they got going they just started acting like young kings should. I am not much for scenting, and really never force feed. However these particular snakes would instantly take a snake scented pinky so I scented for a long time....instead of the more traditional way which seems to be scent as little as possible and get them on unscented asap. Given the importance of the project to the few of us I scented for months because they'd take an unscented offering or two, but would take several if scented. The end result is nice robust yearlings that eat anything in sight now. I am glad you guys gave these to me and I really hope they produce for us. I will post pics of the male after he sheds.
