Is my grey rat a white oak phase?

QuesarVII Sep 21, 2006 10:34 PM

He's about 4 or 5 years old, 5-6' long. He was one of my first snakes, so I bought him before knowing much. He looks a lot like the other white oak phase pics I've seen.

Here are some pics:

5.10 corns- butters, snows, amels, and butter snows
1.1 grey banded kings
1.1 anery hondurans het hypo
1.1 Brazilian Rainbow Boas
1.0 Grey Rat
1.0 Ball Python

The term 'white oak' is applied to bright silver grey specimens, most commonly from N.W. Florida but it is by no means restricted to this locale. Your specimen looks different from most specimens called 'white oak' that I have seen, but to most people the term itself means nothing more but 'very good looking Grey Ratsnake'. Your specimen definately falls into this category.

They are awesome snakes. Check with Dwight Good, he may have produced some this year.

If I ever see a specimen that leads me to believe it will grow up to look like the one pictured I don't think I could pass on it.

Hey Bill, I think you are right about how they got that common name. Great photo!

Thanks everyone! I always thought he looked nice, but never realized til now what a great specimen he is. I've been more into the corns, gbk's, hondurans, and BRB's. Galdalf (the grey) had always just been a pet. I hadn't thought about breeding him like the others I have in pairs or more. Now I'm thinking of getting a nice female for him, unless someone here has one and lives anywhere near Fall River, MA and wants to work together. If he's as great of a specimen as you guys say, it would be a waste to not breed him out some and make some nice babies. It's a good enough excuse for one more anyway!

Steve-
What kind of pics would people want? I thought those were fairly decent shots. Any suggestions for how I could do better (I'm serious, not sarcastic)? Do you want higher res ones or something? I still have the 3MP originals.

All your pics are outstanding. Not a thing wrong with them. I pretty much meant, take as many pics as you want, as often at you want. A five to six foot light colored Grey rat is a sight to behold. If you do take some future pics, I wouldn't mind seeing some outdoor shots in natural light, or maybe some pics of your grey rat being held in hand. I have an 05 male, but has a long ways to go before he's the size of your female. Thanks for the excellent pics.

I agree with everyone in that even though that might not be what you consider a white oak, who cares, that thing is awesome. As Steve mentioned below, an outdoor pic might be pretty cool to look at. He looks almost blue in those pics, again very nice. Here's my "white oak" rat, I beleive a 2004 animal.
