I said I wanted to buy that 100% het Caramel from you to breed to my Sharp in the future. You asked why?

I knew it would be cool, but this is WHY! And I did not know about this then. WOW!!!!!!

So any chance I can still get that guy born on July 19 (my b-day)?

boaphile Sep 22, 2006 02:09 PM

Boy am I glad I kept those het for Caramels!

I hate you right? LOL
All in good fun.

This is the single MOST exciting thing to happen in boas. I love genetics, and when things come along that you have no idea what is going on, it makes it that much better.

Then you throw in my favorite Colombian boa morphs, YEAH! Hmm, if this works with Colombian T-plus X Sharp, even if not the same. I think I will have found my calling!

senorsnake Sep 22, 2006 11:30 AM

how long have you been hiding those?

>>And have been for years. You can't steal my name.

That doesn't mean you hold patent to the name for a new boa morph.. unless of course you've been keeping a breeding project under wraps. Either way, he beat you too it for the morph name, and prolly has just a bit more 'clout' and 'sway'.

Mike, those boas are AWESOME! I forsee some nasty NASRTY morph combos coming out of those bad boys .

Paradigmboas Sep 22, 2006 04:55 PM

Paradigmboa has been my legal business name since '97. Paradigmboa @ yahoo.com is my email addy and Paradigmboas has been my moniker here on KS.
I don't have a legal issue with using the name to coin a new morph. I just don't think it's right to take someones business name open a dot com and use it to their advantage.
How would any of you feel if your name was taken in this way?

vcaruso15 Sep 22, 2006 05:01 PM

address the situation. I would contact Mike privately and discuss it with him. Just my .02 Vinnie

giantkeeper Sep 22, 2006 05:01 PM

.coms are first come first serve, and I know Mike has had his for a while.

If it was that important, you probably would not have waited?

I own giantkeeperreptiles.com, and even changed my web address to www.bloodyleopard.com but I maintain the former for as long as I do business as Giantkeeper Reptiles.....

Who knows, its highly possible that you're business will benefit from people mistakingly assuming you own/breed these boas rather than the other way around.

I think the first thing any "business" does is register their domain name in this day and age. In fact the name paradigmboas.net is still likely available. So the business name "Paradigm Boas" is still available. Mike did not change his business name. He just selected a great name for a new morph. Also, an email address, on-line nickname or CB handle does not constitute a "business name". Just my two cents.

They are INCREDIBLE! I've always hoped for something like this,it shows that there is more to genetics than the simple two dimentional prayer rug that we like to park our carcasses on! (*lol*) and that there's often unseen reason to pay close attention to detail, and always keep an open mind! congratulations! and major kudos for presenting the information you've uncovered! "way to go"!!!!

I am not sure I totally understand the genetics of what is going on here even after reading the web site. They are very interesting and I look forward to learning more about them. It must have been hard to keep this quiet.

Have a great show!

lavenderboa Sep 22, 2006 12:58 PM

the Ultramel cornmorph.

The caramelgene must be on the same locus as the sharp albino gene. This results animals the paradigm look. If this is the same as the ultramelcorn, this is a great great GREAT project. If not, its also a great great GREAT project!

WOOOEEEEEE yeah!!!

Caramel het x Sharp het = paradigm and 50% dh's etc. This may answer the question as to why the Sharp is not compatible with the Kahl, and we have for some time speculated some level of "t " connection with the Sharp. Have you bred this caramel to a Kahl albino?! If you got normals that would definately fill in some gaps of the Kahl difference from the Sharp, but who knows?!! Have you bred the paradigm to a normal?! That is the MAIN question!! Iif you can get paradigms in the first generation or you need the normal morph to be at least het for one of the two-sharp or caramel!! Either way the Sharp albinos and your line of caramel (and hopefully a few others!)have a lot of neat things ahead of them!!

Congrats!!! Guess we all have some breeding to do...hmmmm now I know why you kept it a secret!!!

Tracy

creptilia Sep 22, 2006 01:49 PM

are you telling me I have to breed my Sharps into my T's? I wonder if Tracy is right- are Sharps just a different phenotype than the typical T positive? I feel sorry for all those not going to Anaheim.

emailed Mike a few weeks ago about some differences I noted between my Sharp and Kahl, I would have emailed you but you don't have Kahls to compare to.

I have also thought that the Caramel was some form of T-plus gene.

There are a bunch of things fitting together now, and many more unanswered.

All I can say on the forum, I NEED TO GET STARTED ON MY AMEL RESEARCH! Well, I have to go email a prof. and see about this.

ChrisGilbert Sep 22, 2006 01:52 PM

this is for me. This summer Jeff Ronne had a litter of het Carmels, one male was born early on July 19 (my b-day). So I asked Jeff if I could buy it for my female Sharp in the future.

He asked why I would want to do that, and this is WHY! WOW.

I wasn't able to get that male, and now I have a feeling Jeff won't let any go for SURE!

Now I HAVE to make it to Chicago!

I am so excited, this really releases the stress of classes. Oh my god!

ChrisGilbert Sep 22, 2006 02:02 PM

I lost your number.
My cell is 412-953-4098. I'm done with class today so unless I don't have service I can be reached all weekend.

I want to talk to you about some things I have thought about, that might be linked here. Possibly proven theorys, and an interesting mutation another breeder I know is working with in Corn Snakes that works 100% like this.

WOW!

vcaruso15 Sep 22, 2006 02:04 PM

Will they be in Chicago???

vcaruso15 Sep 22, 2006 04:59 PM

Het Sharp Boa Woman Cramel aka T positive. That is awesome. I cant wait to see what the double Homo version looks like. Anyone have any guesses? Maybe a Lucy with red eyes...I can dream can't I. Congrats again on an awesome project. Vinnie

Congratulations Mike on this beautiful new snake. I am proud to have been a part....if only from the beginning....of this unique project. Congratulations to Stephanie as well, as I remember you asking her how many carmels she wanted, and I know she has assisted you all along the way. Your years of speculation and experimentation have paid off in a big way. All the best to both of you. Sharon / boawoman

ps....If an attached pic comes up, it was in the box and it will not delete, so it is a pic of just one of my other babies.

Hey Mike,
That is awesome, who would have ever thought. All I can say is "WOW". I knew when Sharon first produced the Carmels that they were going to be something special, but I would have never guessed this. I am definetly going to shuffle some of my pairings this year. Give me a call when you get back from Anaheim, we need to talk some more.
