update on turtle

Ninja_tortoise Aug 05, 2003 05:14 PM

well, i don't think her eggs are gonna hatch. they look sunk in and where they sunk in, i think they cracked. i have them in damp moss, covered in bark chips, incubating in a ten gallon tank with a screen top.
as for the turtle, she won't eat the romaine i put in, BUT, she mauled a bunch of crickets, 12 mealworms and 2 night crawlers...so she IS eating. she is out and about instead of hiding, and is pretty friendly now. i'm happy. i just need a name for her.

sometimes its hard to get them to eat vegetables but if she is eating insects you might try dousing them in a high quality baby food (get one wwhich is low in sugar, try sweet potatoes or squash or carrots or chicken) the turtles will often eat the insects this way and they get some good nutrients also.
you might also try some berries or mushrooms
box turtles don't really eat a lot of leaves in the wild.
is this an eastern box or a western?

sorry about the eggs.
maybe she''l lay again.
