Other than Newspaper?

gophersnake13 Sep 22, 2006 07:01 PM

This is the thing, I know that newspaper/paper towels are the best bedding for snakes. But I was wanting to put something more attractive than than newspaper in a few of my cages. I have a 40 gallon and am looking to house one of the following:

white sided bull,
sinaloan milk
goini's king
florida king
grey banded king
radiated rat
everglades rat

One of these which would be best for an alternative bedding.

Also what is the best bedding other then paper.

For most things I use what's called "contractor paper" or "builder's paper". It comes in a roll 35 inches wide and 140 feet long at the hardware store, and is a darkish brown (like a paper grocery bag). It's not exactly natural, but I think it looks MUCH better than newspaper or paper towel...

I buy dimpled craft paper from uline.com it is also like paper bags but has a texture to it. I still put a couple of layers of newspaper underneath for additional absorption.

I'll go generic because that's what I use. You can't go wrong with aspen shavings. I use it for all my snakes. It looks good the snakes love it because they can burrow and it's safe. Can't go wrong.

Well I think I'll go with the aspen with some previously frozen dry leaves and pine needles for a natural look. I went stick hunting earlier today so I think I'll make this into a display tank. Besides this will be my only snake. I think I've decided to go with a 29 gallon and an everglades ratsnake. It's my only snake because in a year in a half I'll be going off to army so I can become a veternarian technichian or a vet depending on how long I can stand being poor and not affording snakes lol. My mom will take care of the everglades while I am gone. Thanks
I'll post a pick of it when I'm all finished with it.

EcoEarth (EcoPeat, Bed-a-Beast) works wonders with milks from coastal Mexico. Keep it slightly damp and let it dry out, dampen again, etc. You'll notice fantastic color and skin tone on the Sinaloan.
