Sungai Petani: The emergence of a lone female green turtle on the shores of Kota Kuala Muda on Monday has punters queuing to place bets.
One of the favourite numbers being bet on in legal and illegal outlets is "435" which is said to mean turtle.
Those who opt for four-digit bets are adding "9" for the month of September or "1" since it was a lone turtle.
Meanwhile, plans to transport the reptile to the Turtle and Marine Eco-System Centre in Rantau Abang, Terengganu had to be postponed as the reptile, believed to be about 50 years old, was found to be weak.
A researcher said it needed further medical check-ups to determine its condition before it can be released.
"It is eating and moving but it appears sluggish. We’ll let it get better first as the journey will take about eight hours."
