Feeding Gecko

imelda500 Aug 05, 2003 05:23 PM

I just bought a new Gecko for my son and we are unsure on how often and how much to feed our Leopard Gecko. We were told to put in 10 crickets to see how many he eats in a day and go from there. We have done this twice and he'll eat every single cricket in two hours max. I don't know what to do. HELP.

You should probably feed as many crickets as the little guy will take (if it is a baby)... if he starts to regurgitate crickets than his eyes are bigger than his stomach hehe... so cut back by 3 crickets every feeding that he regurgitates. (make sure to count how many he heats at a time). That way you will know aprox. how many crix the little guy eats. They will usually stop themsleves when they are full... if anybody would like to add to this, then go ahead.

Let me see if I understand exactly what to do. Everyday I should feed him as much as he'll eat??? Everyday give him 10 crix?? And I also feed him up to 6 mealworms per day. This sounds like too much food but if this is really normal then that's what I'll do. I have another question, after the 1st time he ate the 1st 10 crix the next day his skin started peeling. How often does this happend?? I have tried reading up on these questions in a book from the pet store and they really don't discuss this kind of stuff. I really appreciate all the advice since we have no idea what we are doing. In the short time that we have had him, his name is "Sid", we have all really enjoyed watching him. Thanks for the help.

sounds like you have a good eater on your hands. 10 food items is great!!! you needn't offer more or less. just make sure you are supplementing the crickets with a calcium supplement.
